PAGUDPUD is probably the north’s most precious jewel with its white sand beaches perfect for anyone seeking both pleasure and adventure. HOW TO GO THERE
- By Air – From Manila, take a flight to Laoag City through Cebupac or PAL Express. Travel time takes 45 minutes to an hour. From Laoag City, take a van or a bus (GMW) to Pagudpud. Travel takes around 2 hours or less and fare is P100. For travelers coming outside of Manila, there might not be a flight straight to Laoag City available for you so you have to fly to Manila first then to Laoag or fly to Clark then take a bus from Dau terminal going all the way to Pagudpud.
- By Land – From Manila take a bus GV Florida, Partas (to Laoag City) or any bus liner in Cubao to Pagudpud. Travel takes 10 to 12 hours and fare is at P800 to P900.
WHERE TO STAY
- Homestays – this is one form of promoting tourism in an area or country where a traveler/s can stay at a local residence for a certain period of time. There are a lot of these in Pagudpud along Maira Ira Cove like Shallen Arron Homestay | 0999-678-995, Hannah Lou’s Homestay | 0921-310-4826 and Cathy’s Homestay | 0919-571-6680 just to name a few.
- Beach Resorts – since Pagudpud is rapidly becoming popular for its beautiful beaches and as a surf haven, expect to find many resorts in the area. You can choose to stay in one of these well known resorts namely Hannah’s Beach Resort | 0928-520-6255, Saud Beach Resort and Evangeline Beach Resort.
WHAT TO DO
- Try the open sea zip-line at Hannah’s Beach which is the longest in the world for P800/pax.
- Kite-surf at Kingfischer Beach Resort for a little over P2500/pax including lessons and gear.
- Visit and bathe in Agua Grande and Kabigan Falls if you want something for a change.
- Tour and discover the wonderful tourist spots in the area for P800 good for 3 people through a tricycle.
WHAT TO SEE
- Patapat Viaduct – this bridgelike structure with series of arches offers a breathtaking view of the coastlines of Ilocos Norte.
- Paraiso ni Anton – this has a mini grotto dedicated to the Virgin Mary landscaped beside a rocky stream with the luscious rainforest as the backdrop.
- Dos Hermanos – these are twin islets near Hannah’s Beach.
- Bantay Abot Cave – derived from the Ilocano word bantay meaning mountain and abot meaning hole hence bantay abot as it is used to refer to a moutain hole.
- Timmantang Rock – is a bell shaped rock formation covered in moss found along Maira Ira cove.
- Kabigan Falls – a magnificent waterfall situated 30 minutes away off the main road through tricycle. Entrance Fee is P20 and tour guide fee is P50.
- Agua Grande – has a man-made swimming pool filled with water coming from a stream going down the mountains. Entrance Fee is P50
- Bangui Windmills – these are 20 gigantic windmills built along the shorelines fronting the West Philippine Sea.
- Kapurpurawan Rock – is a wondrous work of nature and a beautiful sight to behold along the rocky shores in Ilocos.
- Cape Bojeador Lighthouse – this is the oldest working lighthouse in Asia and the tallest in the country.
HOW MUCH TO SPEND
- To tour Pagudpud alone will cost P800 exclusive of entrance fees. Best to tour in a group to save cost.
- Fare from Manila by bus is around P800/pax RT is P1600.
- Food can be allotted with P300/pax in a day.
- Accomodation may vary if you are in a group or traveling solo but to be on the safe side P1000/room is more than enough.
