People spend their time in parks, playing and exercising, rather than strolling through malls. Speaking of malls, there is only one in Malaybalay, which may not be sufficient for your retail therapy needs. However, one thing I love about Malaybalay is its local cuisine. The quality of food and service is comparable to that in larger cities, with some establishments even exceeding expectations. If you’re in the area and looking for a place to eat, here are eight restaurants in Malaybalay that can definitely satisfy your culinary cravings.

Totsy’s is at the top of my list of restaurants in Malaybalay. They have everything right, from the menu to the ambiance and service. The food is delicious. Although the prices are a bit steep, they are totally justified by the great quality and generous portions. If you’re looking for a place to enjoy cakes, pastries, pizzas, and coffee, Totsy’s is the perfect spot.

Coffee Wagon is my go-to coffee spot in Malaybalay. Beyond their consistently good coffee, I really enjoy their menu. It features Filipino breakfast staples, pasta, and their signature waffles. The servings are generous, which is always a plus. What I love most is how conveniently located they are in the town center, yet still tucked away enough to feel quiet and secluded. Their space also has this simple, cozy aesthetic that makes you want to stay a little longer.

If you love authentic Chinese cuisine, Ting Yang is a must-visit when you’re in Malaybalay City. Although it’s a bit farther from the city center, the drive to Aglayan is well worth it. The restaurant offers an extensive menu of Chinese favorites. From their signature fried rice to flavorful dumplings and satisfying noodle dishes. Every bite makes for a truly delightful dining experience.

Tucked humbly along Magsaysay Street, the place may be small, but it overflows with character and charm. While the staff could benefit from additional training in customer service and attentiveness, perhaps being a bit more proactive, there’s no denying the appeal of the place itself. For those who enjoy al fresco dining, the area near the pool is especially delightful, surrounded by lush greenery and scenic views that make the experience feel calm and leisurely.

Le Café was one of Malaybalay’s most beloved cafés, and its permanent departure left many longing for its return. Thankfully, its legacy lives on through The Gazebo by Le Café. Owned by the same family, this charming spot continues to serve the familiar menu that patrons grew to love, now set within the family’s own gazebo, hence the name. Beyond the food, what truly makes dining here special is the breathtaking view of the mountains, which becomes even more magical at sunset as the sky is painted in warm hues. The location is wonderfully secluded, making it an ideal escape for those who crave peace and quiet. If serenity and scenery are what you’re after, The Gazebo by Le Café is close to perfect.

One stall in particular stood out to me, mainly because its palapa is unbelievably good. Rich, spicy, and packed with flavor.

If you’re a fan of flavored wings, Miriam’s Plate is definitely worth a visit. I don’t know if it’s just me, but this place evokes strong nostalgia from my college days. The kind of reliable go-to spot you count on when your allowance is running low. It’s comforting, familiar, and satisfying in the best way.

Lastly, there’s Panika Tea and Souvenir Shop, a lovely spot for those who enjoy sampling different teas alongside bite-sized snacks. It’s the perfect place for quiet afternoon musings, where you can sip a warm cup of tea, nibble on small treats, and take in beautiful views. You really can’t go wrong if you’re looking for a calm and cozy escape.
