Most people who travel to the Philippines do so largely to enjoy the land itself. Pretty beaches, otherworldly waters, small towns, hiking, boating, and scuba diving tend to be the highlights and the things people look forward to the most. Even so, it’s inevitable that a natural paradise like this becomes enough of a tourist destination that major resorts are built, which is how we get to modern Manila.

While the city of Manila still has an “old town” feel to it, as well as close, visible ties to its Spanish colonial heritage, it’s also a hotbed of international tourists, and home to the most impressive cluster of resorts on the islands. Somewhat like Macau or Singapore, which also brought large resorts to Southeast Asia, Manila now has all kinds of commercial activity to blend with its natural and historic appeal.

We won’t draw too many distinctions between the specific resorts – the big ones being Resorts World Manila, City Of Dreams, Okada, Solaire, and the Winford Hotel & . But these are some of the best things about the area in general.

1. Accommodations at Okada

When it comes to strips of resorts, it’s always hard to pick and choose between the actual accommodations. One place might be known for comfortable beds, another for the most luxurious basic rooms, and another for its suites. And the truth is most respectable resorts these days have fairly impressive accommodations. This is the case in Manila also, but Okada may have the best overall rooms. While expensive, even the most ordinary rooms are suite-like, and the Manila Bay Suite and Celebrity Suite are the stuff of dreams. The latter is even described by the hotel as “space so opulent it redefines our sense of luxury.”

2. Dining At Solaire

Dining is a bit like rooms and suites in that most every significant resort has some excellent restaurant options. Eating at most any of the venues among the major Manila hotels can be a memorable experience. The Solaire stands out above the rest by just a hair though, in part because of its variety. From an elegant Italian steakhouse to a trendy Korean barbecue restaurant, there’s a little bit of everything, all prepared and presented with the highest attention to detail.

3. Classic Games at Resorts World Manila

It actually takes a lot for a to stand out these days. Digitals have become so sophisticated they almost completely mimic the gaming experience. Every conceivable slot is available online, there are exciting and exhilarating live games on offer, and the convenience of it all is an appeal in and of itself. Sometimes a grand floor makes a big enough impression to make you appreciate the real thing anyway though, and this is how it goes at Resorts World Manila. Comprised of slots, table games, and even tournaments and spread over multiple floors and various entire gaming areas, the is among the finest in Southeast Asia, and can make an impression on most anyone.

4. Virtual Reality at City Of Dreams

City Of Dreams Manila is another of the large properties, and it has a little bit of everything as well. Its virtual reality facility sets it apart however, and makes for one of the most unique attractions in town. Called “The Garage,” it provides essentially a glorified food court as well as an immersive experience of virtual reality entertainment for guests. With games including a VR version of the popular racing game Mario Kart, a ski simulator, and “Hospital Escape Terror,” it provides an awesome range of activities, and could conceivably become a trendsetter among s, both in Manila and around the world.

5. The Fountain at Okada

The Bellagio in Las Vegas has a world-famous fountain that doubles as a kind of show at night. The fountain at Okada isn’t nearly as famous, but it’s every bit as impressive. It occupies the space of 50 Olympic swimming pools and stages performances with high-powered jets, lights, and musical accompaniment. For some visitors, it will wind up being the single most impressive thing to see in Manila.
